Triovasalos, Milos
The commercial center of Milos, Triovasalos and Peran Triovasalos are twin villages in the heart of Milos. The official pronunciation is tree-oh-VASS-ah-loss, even though most locals prefer to place the accent on the second 'a' as in: tree-oh-vah-SAH-loss. The name of the village of Triovasalos is sometimes seen spelled with a double 's' as in: Triovassalos.
Together
with Plaka, Tripiti and Plakes, these five
villages lie adjacent to each other and form
the main population area of
Milos.
They are referred to collectively as the
"upper-villages" by the locals, as they lie
away from the seaside at an elevation of
about 150m.
Triovasalos and Peran Triovasalos offer the visitor a friendly village atmosphere and a central location. As most of the inhabitants are not dependent on tourism for an income, the twin villages offer the visitor a casual glimpse at the authentic Greek island life, away from the bustle of the modern tourist centers. Triovasalos is about 1km. away from Plaka and 1.5km. from the seaport of Adamas.
